Anything sells!
I won’t delve into any sort of debate over this. Not yet (The title matches what is something so hilarious below!). Below is something, which I found extremely funny and stupid but apparently it has been a super-hit! Some chap came up with quote “Anything sells!” ages ago – I think he must have come across similar give-up things, as listed below, during his time (there is a song “Peace sells” by Megadeth too – which is genuinely good).
- The Million Dollar Homepage! - Catchy tagline: Own a piece of internet history!!!
The guy who created the website definitely had his way! He did it for a purpose which he must have surpassed by 3-4 times at the least. As mentioned in his FAQ, let me quote his purpose:
“The idea is simple: to try and make $1m (US) by selling 1,000,000 pixels for $1 each. Hence, ‘The Million Dollar Homepage”. The main motivation for doing this is to pay for my degree studies, because I don’t like the idea of graduating with a huge student debt.”
Absolutely fantastic and simply put! I don’t understand though why the hell in this holy world would so many companies, poker websites, other pixel ad rental sites, even a dating site put their tiny-winy ads on this web page! It looks like a colorful bee hive to be looked at from a distance but not to be disturbed by touching (in this context clicking). I definitely will not click on any of those ads for I am not a clicker-of-ads-on-a-page-with-thousands-of-ads kind of guy. But anything sells!
Now that the page has sold out, posters are up for sale. You can show it to your grandsons and they can show it to their grandsons. Some 500 years down the line students will learn the history of marketing where they will be shown this picture below. It will also be put up in famous art museums around the world with the following caption!

Da Vinci of the 21st century
